An average day like for a Software Engineer

Well typical day for an IT professional starts with getting very early if you have to catch up office cab (if your office is far from where you live)

Or waking up quite late (at least at your reporting timings) if your office is at walking distance. Like this (because you will sleep late or very late - to know why... read on)

In both of the situations you will be in a hurry to get ready and reach office, otherwise you will be welcomed with a taunt by peers who have taken the pains to arrive early in office :-p

... or by your manager

First thing you do after reaching office is the most sacred thing!... Read the Sacred Scroll (Read CHECKING YOUR E-MAILS and pray that there is no urgent action item)

After that, First hour or so you will be full of energy, and what is the best way to utilize this energy? To get more energy :-D
So you will end up utilizing the most productive hour of your day chit chatting and having breakfast like this (in office cafeteria)

You will be like "Ready your breakfast and eat hearty, for tonight we dine in hell!"

Now it would be around 10 am in EST(Employee Standard Time) and CST(Company Standard Time) :-p

Now once the most fun part of your day is over, let's get to work. For the next two hours you will be working on the action items that were listed in Sacred Scroll...

Suddenly, you feel something. Something you have not felt from past few days(in *EST :-p). What is this feeling that is stopping you from performing your divine duty? You realize that you have not eaten from past so many days(again *EST) and have been working incessantly...

Your survival instincts kick in and you start nagging the more evolved species (read loyal employees who can work their asses off till chairs give up or they do!) for lunch. Slowly they give up and thank you (in their heart) for taking this initiative.

You reach office cafeteria and find

You decide to get in large queues to get something edible to eat. When in queue you feel like this ...

After having lunch you will be like

But there is work to be done(some meetings and progress check with your manager), so you reluctantly perform these rituals. Around 3 PM (*CST), you will actually feel how working in IT is like.

Around 4 PM (*CST), your EST clock shows time like Day 3, 3 AM... After working for so long, it's time for a little break ... So you again head to your entertainment hub (don't get too excited, it's your cafeteria again :-p).

But this time, things look different. You see smiling faces and delicious dishes! You have some tea and snacks like

Although you don't want any break to get over, but this tea time is special. You cherish this time, but alas! you have to get back to work.

You get back to work and write some e-mails, browse
Google News, and some other stuff.

Soon it's 6 PM *CST and Day 7 on your calendar! You start packing your stuff and genuine happiness is seen on your face! after a long time :-D

But Behold, as you are ready to leave, there is a stern voice in background. You don't look back as you are afraid this is the nightmare you were looking to avoid, but you already know in your heart... there is no escape to it... Meanwhile you experience Doppler Effect and it's exactly how it was explained to you in school - when a train approaches, Doppler noticed, the train's whistle pitch keeps on getting higher!.... And when the source of sound(your Manager) reaches you, it's exactly like being hit by a train.

Congratulations, you have a new bug(or some other random action item) that is so urgent that whole of US economy depends on it!

Being a loyal employee and absolutely no right to social life, you work your ass off to get that bug resolved. Once that action item is taken care of, you take a look at your watch and it's already Day 10 on your watch (8 PM *CST).

You start cursing IT industry(Why Me?) as you leave office premises. You reach your accommodation(PG or room or home) and have dinner, spend some time on facebook and if you are lucky like me(then on Quora!)

It's around 10 PM. You are not sleepy and start analyzing your life. You feel like you are lost and an indistinguishable  part of IT crowd. But there is a sunny side to all this. Your friends.

You take up your phone and call your friends (or girlfriend/boyfriend) and bitch about IT culture and relish the days you used to have fun! (or if you are living at home you watch Big Boss and go to sleep! :-p)

You feel sleepy now as it has already been past midnight(or past 2 AM - if you are committed :-p). You go to sleep saying enough is enough, I am going to change all this. I am going to pursue my passion from tomorrow!

Suddenly, your alarm clock rings for the 4th time and you are already late for work! and the cycle continues....

P.S. - Quality and Quantity of Food items described above can and does vary incredibly :-p

*EST - Employee Standard Time
**CST - Company Standard Time
